The rainforest is a rare, lush biome added by the Atmospheric mod, it bears some resemblance to both forests and jungles, with much of its own ambience and content. It features a variety of plant life and is mainly composed of rosewood trees. It has four variations in total.

Description[edit]

Rainforests are densely populated with rosewood trees, coming in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The ground is made up of grass blocks and podzol, resembling the ground cover of vanilla bamboo jungles. Small boulders made of mossy cobblestone frequently generate across the terrain. Bushes made of oak leaves and logs frequently form on the ground, and full-size oak trees occasionally form within the rosewoods. Large lakes frequently generate in the normal and mountains variants, with their surfaces dotted with lily pads and floors dominated by seagrass. Rose bushes, lilacs, peonies, and lilies of the valley generate as well. All standard passive mobs (cows, sheep, chickens, and pigs) may spawn, along with wolves and parrots. The water in rainforests has a unique teal color.

Rainforests are home to their own unique plant life, namely passion vine and monkey brushes. Passion vines form on the logs and leaves of the trees, along with the walls of generated terrain; they serve as a source of passionfruit and passion vine bundles. Monkey brush is a bright orange flower, and is unique among flowers in that it can be placed on the sides of blocks.

Survival in rainforests can prove to be difficult, similarly to jungles. The dense foliage can quickly get a player lost, and the canopy tends to form dark patches where hostile mobs can spawn during daytime. The mountains variant is especially dangerous, due to its extreme terrain generation coupled with the aforementioned dense tree canopy.

Rainforests were previously known as rosewood forests and are still referred to as such in the 1.14x and 1.15x versions of the mod.

This is the standard variant of the biome family. Terrain is mildly hilly, with large lakes often breaking up the canopy. The biome, along with its variants, tends to generate near other forests, jungles, and deserts.

The Rainforest Plateau generates similarly to vanilla savanna and badlands plateaus, rising from near sea level to roughly Y=90, and flattening at the top. The terrain at the top of the plateau is less hilly than the regular forest, and does not generate lakes, but is otherwise mostly the same.

Spare Rainforest Plateau[edit]

The Spare Rainforest Plateau generates its terrain just like the normal rainforest plateau; an elevated landmass rising from near sea level to roughly Y=90, flattening at the top. The top of the plateau generates differently from the other variants, with podzol being absent and significantly less trees and flowers generating overall; rosewood trees generate in sporadic patches rather than across the entire landscape, and two-block-tall flowers do not generate. Mossy boulders and oak bushes continue to generate uniformly.

The Rainforest Mountains feature terrain quite similar to vanilla shattered savannas; extremely steep cliffs, overhangs, and floating islands are the norm, alongside massive waterfalls and deep lakes. Terrain can range from as low as Y=40 in the deepest lakebeds, to as high as Y=220 at the top of the highest trees. The extreme height variation, coupled with high tree density, makes this a very dangerous biome to explore and seek shelter in, though it tends to offer spectacular views.
